Wednesday updates
CONGRATULATIONS ON A GREAT WINTER CONCERT!!!!!!!!
Thanks to all in the band for the beautiful flowers for Mrs. Borow, Mrs. Wiesner and Mrs.
Pfauth.
Thanks to all the parents and children for much assistance that was provided before and
after concert. These were greatly appreciated.
GENERAL NEWS:
1. Holmstadt is on for 6 pm on Thursday, Feb. 5th. Click here
for details
2. Please answer your parent email regarding ICHE poll so that decisions can be made
to keep current Spring Concert facility or change to accommodate the convention-goers, if
that number is large.
3. Thursday, Feb. 12th is the first practice of the Spring Trimester. Below are
the instructions:
A. Registrations will be due. Pay Mrs. Wiesner. See the
web for an updated form soon.
B. Well wishers will
again be accepted as a way to pay for Family Registration Fees. All well wishers must be
handed in to Mrs. Wiesner no later than April 15th to
be printed in the Spring Concert program.
B. Instrument rentals
will be due. Pay Mrs. Wiesner.
C. All concert sheet
music must be handed in except - National Anthem and God Bless America
D. Waiting parents can
be a big help by filing music during band.
4. We did not collect the information we were seeking for the contest ensembles. What we
really need is a list of all the performing ensembles (not just names of members) , so
that we know how many actual events we will have. Please help us by listing your
ensemble Thursday, Feb. 12th. Only one entry is needed per ensemble.
MUSIC NOTES:
Clarinets: Please use this time wisely for improving your use of the register key
as well as crossing the break. All students, continue reviewing and working with the CD.
Challenges: These will be resuming in a few weeks. We will
be limiting the number of challenges this trimester, in order to maintain Mrs. Wiesner's
availability and sanity. There will now be one challenge date per month for the
remainder of the concert season: February 26th (announce Feb 19,
actual challenge Feb 26), March 25, and April 22.
If you've already lost a challenge to the person above you, you are done with challenges
for this concert season Concentrate on improving by practicing scales and other reviewing
the method books for the formal auditions coming up this summer. See past audition
requirements and work on that as well.
Special note to Percussion Parents:
Over the coming weeks, new music will be handed out and new part assignments will
be made. Percussionists will now be receiving parts for every song as well as a new
comprehensive assignment sheet. Every Thursday night after band, Mrs. Borow posts the
order of songs for the following week. In order to use time wisely, all percussionists
will be expected to come to band with a copy of the weekly song order. Percussionists
should study that list ahead of time, and indicate their assignment next to the song
title. This will help them know what they are to play and where they are to go as our
rehearsal progresses. It should reduce time between songs and and minimize the
amount of direction required from Mrs. Pfauth.
Also, extra parts not assigned should be kept in their notebooks. These should be on hand
for the students to learn. Percussionists can fill in for an absent band percussionist and
know his part. Extra effort should be made to study these other parts, especially if their
own assignment is mastered, for the student's own enrichment. This method should improve
all percussionist's progress.
