GENERAL NOTES
CONCERT REMARKS
Congratulations to all on a fine 5th Anniversary Winter Concert.

Everyone pulled together to play some of the best performances we have ever had. Your conscientious diligence and extra efforts really paid off.

Special thanks are extended to Helen Herbst, the Booster volunteers and Marla Sheldon for masterminding and executing such an effective, smooth logistics plan.

On behalf of Mrs. W-P, Mrs. Pfauth and I, we thank you for the beautiful roses as a sign of your appreciation. As always, it is our pleasure and honor to be have the opportunity to be associated with such a fine group of families. We are a team!

SPRING TRIMESTER REGISTRATION
The deadline for spring trimester registrations is our next practice, February 2. Every family needs to complete the 2005-2006 Spring Registration Form and give it to Mrs. Wiesner-Pardee, along with your fees. Any family, who turned in their fees early, needs to complete this form if you have not yet done so. Please note that, on the form, we are asking for an emergency, cell phone, contact number. This number will NOT be published in the band directory and will only be used to notify you of a last minute cancellation or the like. Please keep your cell phone on while driving to practice or other events so you can be reached. If driving duties switch between Mom and Dad you may want to give us both numbers.

SECOND TRIMESTER BEGINS
The second trimester will begin with practice on Thursday, February 2. Every band level will have practice at Resurrection, at the usual times. At this practice, a number of things need to take place.

Every family in all four band levels must turn-in a completed 2005-2006 Spring Registration Form along with fees.
All three concert bands; RETURN any remaining Christmas music

All three concert bands; KEEP Colonel Bogey, God Bless America, Star Spangled Banner.

Symphonic members also need to KEEP the following pieces; Finale, St. Louis Blues March and Salvation is Created.

RETURN all remaining concert music into your file folder. Symphonic Band should also return Rhapsody of Reruns.

Other than the exceptions listed, no one should have any music remaining from the first semester.

Three concert bands; pick-up new music for the second trimester, from your file folder, as you return music from first semester. If you still have the extra-large folder in which you received your first semester music, it would be a good idea to bring it with you this week to protect the edges of the new music you will be receiving. Most music is larger than 8 ½" x 11".
Members of the three concert bands need to return their bow tie; Concert Senior and Symphonic also have a cummerbund to return. Be sure your name is checked-off by a parent helper for each item you return.
Note to percussion: While you will be receiving new music, be aware that no specific part assignments will be made in the first three weeks.

PRACTICE LOGS ARE IMPORTANT
Practice logs serve a variety of purposes. Here is one, to which many can relate. Before you know it, audition time will be here. Close points can make it difficult when determining chair positions. The directors will refer to the practice logs in their decision-making process. If you have not been turning in practice logs, it is in your best interest to start doing so.

CELL PHONES AT BAND
We are aware of the convenience and increasing presence of cells phones in society. However, no band member should have a cell phone with him or her, at their place, during practice. If anyone brings a cell phone with them, it needs to be off or on silent ringer during practice and must remain in their instrument case until they leave.

CHECK THE SEC SCHEDULE
The SEC schedule has been created and will be available, on the front table, at the February 2 band practice. Please check the times for your events to ensure that there are no overlaps. Only Rooms 1 and 4 will have a piano available for accompaniment. Only rooms 2 and 3 will have a CD player available. If you have any problems with your scheduled time and room, please speak with Dawn Larsen.

SEC TIPS
Participants should print out a copy of the registration form to become very familiar with exactly what the judge will be looking for, from your performance that day. If you haven’t printed out and read the information sheet, please do so now. This sheet spells out what you need to prepare prior to the SEC, as well as what to do and what to expect that day, including proper conduct and etiquette pointers.

TO THOSE NOT PARTICIPATING IN THE SEC
Any student, who is not participating in the SEC, is encouraged come that day to observe all that goes on. You are also invited to sit in the audience for any open event. This is a good opportunity to learn what the SEC is all about.

BAND BOOSTERS
Please contact Helen Herbst at band, or email her at volunteer@wshsb.com, if you can help the following –

We need a parent to assist with Concert Senior band attendance for the next trimester, starting February 2.

February 2 Practice – Parent to assist with bow tie and cummerbund collection.

February 9 Practice –Many parents to help sort and file returned music.

February 2 Practice Set-Up is Team Number 2 – Ascenzo, Levander and St Charles Karas families. Thank you!

March 18 - We need parent assistance to hold the Solo and Ensemble Contest.
This event was originally scheduled from 10AM–2PM. Due to the number of entries, it has been extended until 3PM. You may volunteer for a shift from 9:45 to 12:30, 12:30 to 3:00 or the whole day.

Check-in monitor – Checks-in students and provides directions. Two people needed one for each shift.
Door monitor – Assists students in lining-up before event and open/close door for each performance. Eight people needed, four people per shift, each covering one of four doors.
Runner Locates and ushers students to line-up at door. Makes sure judges and door monitors have what they need. Possibly sub for a door monitor so they can attend their own child’s performance. Two people needed one for each shift.
Clean-up – Reassemble facility as it was before contest. Three people needed @3-3:30PM.
