Notes:
Thanks to all of the parents who are sewing cummerbunds for Concert
Band! If possible, please try to return them to practice next week (Jan. 13). Wed
like to distribute them at the Jan. 20th practice, so if you need the time
please let me know that as well as what size and how many you will have when youre
done. Thanks again.
Wed like a couple of parents to assist with the distribution of bow ties and
cummerbunds at the Jan. 20th practice during Cadet and Concert band.
Well also need a few parents to usher band members on and off the stage at the
appropriate times during the concert. Please plan to attend the dress rehearsal if you
offer to help with this task.
If you can help out please contact Helen at volunteer@wshsb.com.
In order to plan for an after concert party, we need to know how many people might attend.
Itll likely be a stop at a nearby restaurant. Please RSVP at the front table next
week by family and give us the number who would likely attend. Thank you.
Band members: Boosters will have a sign up sheet at the front for those members who would
like assistance forming an ensemble for the Solo and Ensemble Contest. Look for it at the
next couple of practices.
If you have solo or ensemble music from last year that you are willing to give, loan or
sell to another band member, well have a sign up sheet for that as well.
Music Notes:
Cadets:
EE 20, 21
Cardiff Castle
Buglers Dream
Dragon Slayer
Handclappers
Concert:
GALLIARD - (Note: This piece, which will be performed by a small ensemble made up of five
symphonic brass members, will be the lead-in fanfare to the National Anthem at the
concert. It needs to be played first this week, as preparations begin for the Winter
concert.)
NATIONAL ANTHEM
GOD BLESS AMERICA all players, especially percussion (i.e. bass), need to keep eyes
on my directing for the entire measure 18, as it accelerates.
SUNNYLAND only principal flute, clar. and trumpets are to play at measures 3 and 4
to offer better balance to the oboe/sax. duet. Woodwinds need to be more prepared to
mentally countin in 6/8 at measure 134.
NEW WORLD SYMPHONY-doing well
BE THOU MY VISION practice more dynamic range
ZACETECAS good.
KIDS STUFF going well!!! Ill remember the grand pause so that the Tyler
can pull the egg and also so that I can work to improve the drama on my end. Compliments
go out to those performing the animal sound effects. These now sound very good and quite
authentic.
Symphonic:
CHORALE Review, beginning at measure E, the trom, bar, cornet, tuba and bass drum.
Then, on to the ending, to review the timpani and the overall de-accelerando.
Percussion (timpani and bass drum), please be prepared to execute a loud "hit"
at the end of the formata, the end of the entire piece. Well try it, just for
"fun"
ha ha
LIGHT CAVALRY reeds, there are notes and accidentals being missed in the Andante
con moto portion, 6 measures before 171. Please play your parts independently at home with
the "music library" recordings, for LC and for Chorale as well. Both are
difficult pieces. Symphonic members need to study the aural models available on the
"music library" and practice along with these "ideal performances".
All members need to focus more on how their parts should be played/sound. If everyone does
this faithfully over the coming weeks, these pieces should improve dramatically.
