We need more parents to serve as Sergeants during band practice. We have a red sign up poster and there are many empty spaces. Last week we had some problems with kids running and playing where they shouldn't. If you are available during band practice, please consider helping. The Sergeant in Arms will wear a red sash so the kids will know who the Sergeants are. The Craft Fair is coming up soon - November 8th. Mrs. Cassity and Mrs. Blunt are organizing this event and should be contacted for crafter/distributor information. All band members are urged to help publicize this event. Fliers will be available at the front desk. Please plan on attending, if at all possible. Those band members interested in performing at the fund raiser should contact Mrs. Cassity. Ensembles are welcome. Friday, November 28th is the Wheaton Light-Up Parade. There will be a sign-up sheet available at the front desk. Please let us know your decision so that we may plan for this event. Saturday, December 6th, 4 p.m. is the Yorktown Christmas Performance. While this is not mandatory, the band has always enjoyed a huge turn out for this event. There will be a sheet at the front table to sign up. Please indicate whether or not you will be participating. Saturday, January 31st, 7-9 p.m., is our formal Winter Concert, held at the Holmstad Center. Yamaha Books Available Mrs. Pfauth will have copies of Yamaha Christmas Ensembles for anyone needing to purchase a copy. This book is required, per the Supply List, for every Concert and Symphonic Band member. It is instrument specific. The cost is $6.00, including tax. Cash or checks , payable to J.W. Pepper, are acceptable. Please bring your payment, in an envelope, marked on the outside with the following information: Student Name (first and last); Band(Concert or Symphonic); Instrument and Amount Enclosed Band T-shirts - Mrs. Pfauth has volunteered to organize this years Band t-shirt order/sale. The t-shirts will be similar to those we ordered last year, with the bands name in larger letters on the back and a much smaller name on the left front. Wearing them is an excellent means of "spreading the word" about the band. The cost for these shirts should be under $10. However, before she can begin, she would like to survey all the band families to know what kind of interest there is (or is not) for purchasing these shirts. She would like to hear from every family. Please e-mail her at KDZMOM6@earthlink.net no later than Thursday, October 30th. Include your family name and tell her: "Not interested in t-shirts" or "Interested in t-shirts" along with the total number of shirts youd be likely to order. Once she has heard from each family she can determine whether there are sufficient numbers to begin taking orders. Cargo Trailer The band is seeking: an enclosed, used cargo trailer, good condition, 6x10, inexpensive. Call Mrs. Borow if you have a lead on this. Thanks for all the help taking down and re-setting up the hall this past week. We are thankful for the many hands that have helped to make this a lighter load!
Cadet Evaluations - Mrs. Borow will continue hearing Cadet Evaluations before band until they have been completed. Requirement: "Five Notes in Review" at the top of page 6 and +Jingle Bells, ex. #38. All Cadets who havent yet been heard by Mrs. Borow should set up and wait in line in the far corner of the hall Review all previous lessons this week. Those who have not yet mastered holding notes or reaching high ones, should use this week to solidify their notes skills. Tonguing: All Cadets should be tonguing all notes. A good exercise for this is ex. 45, William Tell, because of the eighth note repetition. Use previous exercises and exercise 52 as a warm-up this week for. Those who are ahead and comfortable on the notes and exercises covered thus far should consider working on the additional notes necessary to play songs # 78 (Up on a Housetop) and 79 (Jolly Old St. Nick) for Yorktown and the "Performance Spotlight" songs on pages 12 and 13 (ex.53-57) for our Winter Concert.
Section Heads: In addition to making sure that your section is seated correctly, please coordinate the following: your sections tuning. Ask Mrs. Borow for the tuner if she doesnt have it available. Also, clarinets, please practice part E and F of Brahms while you wait for band to begin.
Concert Band Assignments: page 10,11, ex. 44-55. Brahms: This will predictably the most difficult Concert Band song this trimester. Continue working on parts E and F, third clarinets. All students should continue drilling on the passages that play on the "off" beats. This will be the most challenging portion of this piece. The line-up for the next practice will be: Silent Night flutes with NO percussion Continue reviewing Part 2, Number 1 Section Heads: Make sure your section is sitting according to the temporary seating arrangement set up by Mrs. Weisner. Please make sure you move in towards the center of the seating, so that we are seated closely. This will help us hear one another and bring forth a better sound. Panis Angelicus - measures 13 to 27 to 37. Clarinets and saxes will be
