Rehearsal Notes for February 2, 2006
GENERAL NOTES
SOMETHING IS MISSING
At band practice on February 2, Mrs. Wiesner-Pardee
misplaced her Music Distribution Assignment Sheet for Symphonic band. This tells her what
parts people have received and is where she records who has returned their originals.
Please go through your things this week and let her know immediately, if you come across
it. You can email her at Amdg77@aol.com, or phone
her using the number in the Band Directory.
CONCERT SENIOR CLARINET SECTIONAL
You are strongly encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity. Breana Larsen is
offering to hold a Concert Senior clarinet sectional at her home, on a Friday or Saturday
in the month of February. She needs to know if there is sufficient interest, and that you
are willing to make a commitment. Interested members should email her, Nershka@comcast.net, as soon as possible with the Fridays or Saturdays you are available. If you
have anything specific (i.e. a certain section in a band song, how to tune your
instrument, what concert pitches are, etc.) please let her know that as well. She will
contact those who express interest, to set up a specific date. The Larsen's home is in
Hoffman Estates, not far from the intersection of Golf and Roselle Rds. Email for more
specific directions.
SECOND TRIMESTER INSTRUCTIONS
The second trimester began with practice on Thursday, February 2. Some people were not
there, and others forgot their music. There is a
fine of $4 per song, for damaged (in our judgment) or lost/unreturned music.
 | All three concert bands; RETURN any remaining Christmas music |
All three concert bands; KEEP Colonel Bogey, God Bless America, Star
Spangled Banner.
Symphonic members also need to KEEP the following pieces; Finale, St. Louis
Blues March and Salvation is Created.
RETURN all remaining concert music into your file folder. Symphonic Band should also
return Rhapsody of Reruns.
Other than the exceptions listed, no one should have any music remaining from
the first semester.
 | Three concert bands; pick-up new music for the second trimester, from your file folder,
as you return music from first semester. If you still have the extra-large folder in which
you received your first semester music, it would be a good idea to bring it with you this
week to protect the edges of the new music you will be receiving. Most music is larger
than 8 ½" x 11". |
 | Members who were absent from one of the three concert bands need to return their bow
tie; Concert Senior and Symphonic also have a cummerbund to return. Be sure your name is
checked-off by a parent helper for each item you return. |
SEC SCHEDULE
The SEC schedule IS NOW COMPLETED. There is very little, if any, room to rearrange events.
If you have a conflict, you should always let the coordinator, Mrs. Larsen, know. However,
at this point, participants will need to resolve scheduling conflicts on their own. Only
Rooms 1 and 4 will have a piano available for accompaniment. Only rooms 2 and 3
will have a CD player available.
IMPORTANT SEC TIPS
Participants should print out a copy of the registration form to become very familiar with
exactly what the judge will be looking for, from your performance that day. If you
havent printed out and read the information sheet, please do so now. This sheet
spells out what you need to prepare prior to the SEC, as well as what to do and
what to expect that day, including proper conduct and etiquette pointers.
TO THOSE NOT
PARTICIPATING IN THE SEC
Any student, who is not participating in the SEC, is encouraged come that day to observe
all that goes on. You are also invited to sit in the audience for any open event. This is
a good opportunity to learn what the SEC is all about.

MUSIC NOTES
Concert Junior, Senior and Symphonic
The Music Resource Page has been updated for the spring trimester.
Even though you do not have all the music for this trimester, you should be listening to
ALL the recordings that are available on the Music Resource Page, for your
band(s). Apart from your regular practice time, listen (no playing) to them as often as
possible, in order to become very familiar with all aspects of each song. For instance,
let them play in the background while doing assignments on the computer, doing chores
nearby, etc.
For Percussion Only
Concert Junior, Concert Senior and Symphonic - Please note that while you
are receiving new music, be aware that no specific part assignments will be made for
minimally, the first three weeks.
Cadets
All cadets who do not have an Essential Elements
2000 CD/CD-ROM or DVD with exercises 59 end, can either purchase the Play-Along CD,
3-disc set, which is not instrument specific, or use the MP3 recordings, (recently found
on the Hal Leonard website). The Hal Leonard links for wind and percussion are on the Music Resource Page. All students must play along with the recordings during
every practice session at home. Practice times should be at or near 30 minutes per day.
