Wednesday Update for Dec. 8, 2004
This Thursday, December 9th, will be the last practice of the
calendar year.
Our next practice will be January 6th, 2005. See final notes of calendar year
on Friday
BOOSTER NOTES Please send an e-mail to Helen
Herbst hoh@lbherbst.com if
youd like to receive medical updates and prayer requests for Gina Borchers
recovery.Thank you to those who offered to take meals. They are very much appreciated.
Ginas friend, who is coordinating meals, requests that quantity should be for 6 to
avoid too many leftovers - some of the younger children dont eat that much. Please
consider disposable containers. Marla Sheldon has offered to take food brought to band on
Thursday and deliver it to the Borcher family since she lives nearby. Please continue to
keep the entire Borcher family in your familys prayers. Thank you.
Important note to all Concert Saxophonists AND THEIR PARENTS : There will be a brief but important manditory meeting between Cadet and Concert
Bands. All of the above are required to attend.
Yorktown
..
Congratulations to all on a very good performance! We received compliments and another
invitation from the Yorktown to return. The standing arrangement worked well. Thanks to
everyones cooperation and adaptability, we just might fit for one more year.
Post-performance constructive comments:
Going forward, all adult ("helper") musicians and/or the principal players will
tune their section before our performances. Use the bands tuners and all who own
them, bring yours, well labelled. All tuners need to be calibrated to 440 hertz. Mrs.
Borow will do what she can, but approx. 180 members for one person takes too long.
Noise/crowd control: The "buzz" of chatting got very loud in the hallway
during the Cadet performance. Those not playing need to be respectful by being quiet during
the performances of others "
.do unto others as you would have them do unto
you". We ask again for parents to volunteer as "Sargeant in Arms" for
future performances, as we are now quite large and could use "management" help.
Parents who are not yet volunteering, please consider offering some small part of your
time to the band in this capacity, whether at practices or at our performances.
Dress code: All members must wear a LONG sleeved white buttoned down dress shirt. No
short sleeves. Some trumpeters are wearing gloves to protect their instruments. While this
is acceptable for practices, glove wearing will not be allowed during public performances,
since it works against the uniform appearance that we are always striving for.
Again, congratulations to all on a job well done!
Winter Concert:
Just four (4) more regular practices until the dress rehearsal. Practice diligently, daily
over the long Christmas break. Use the time to review past EE book lessons and to perfect
concert songs----use the website music library daily. The Norris is a 1000 seat
auditorium. We hope to have tickets and fliers for the concert available soon for
distribution. Tickets will be free, but will be used for to increase publicity and
encourage attendence. Members can invite everyone on their Christmas lists so we can fill
this place up!
Minutemen: See announcement below
arrangements. We may use these, too, to stroll through the facility at the end of the
performance. Be flexible and ready for some fun as well as some sight reading!

Minutemen: Holmstadt Performance Fri. Dec. 10th 1-2 pm
There will be a brief meeting between Concert and Symphonic band to pass out some old/new
easy Christmas music. We will review plans for the Holmstadt Center Christmas performance
on Friday, Dec. 10th, from 1-2 pm. After 9 pm, those Minutemen willing to stay
will run through the music distributed in an effort to create nearly a full hour of
Minutemen Christmas music. Remember to bring all Christmas music you currently have in
your folders from Yorktown as well as Yamaha books.
For the actual performance, all participants are to be there, ready to play not
later than 12:30. While we will not actually perform until 1, we will use this
half hour as extra time to run through songs while we are there, since practice time has
been limited and the setting (resident lunchtime) lends itself well to this. Remember to
bring lyres and flip folders, just in case we "carol". See preliminary song
line-up at the bottom of these webnotes. Mrs. Borow has small marchette books that contain
simple Christmas carols
Preparation for the Holmstadt performance:
At Thursdays rehearsal:
Thursday evening between Concert and Symphonic band: pass out some old/new easy Christmas
scores
After 9: run through as much newly distributed music as possible.
At Holmstadt on Friday:
Brief rehearsal from 12:30 to 1 to practice
Performance begins at 1
Songs most members already have:
African Bell Carol
Need A Little Christmas
Christmas Spectacular
Sleigh Ride
To be distributed:
Do You Hear What I Hear

Final lineup to be distributed at Holmstadt
bring all music with you.
In the spirit of a loyal and true Minuteman, be prepared for anything!!
